1959 AC ACECA
Details

AC made a variety of racing cars prior to the release of the formidable AC Cobra including the 1953-1962 AC ACE, ACECA (hardtop), and the Greyhound (a 2+2 Aceca).  Like their little brother the AC Cobra, the ACE, ACECA and Greyhound were all hand built examples, all alloy bodied and low production English vehicles.  AC ACECA's cost were comparable to Aston Martins. ACECA's were campaigned successfully all over Europe and are globally today - see www.vintagerallies.com 1950's Morgan factory driver and owner, Mr. Arch McNeil told me recently over dinner that the ACE and ACECA were the cars that the Morgan people aimed for first as they reengineered their cars for the next season. "It took us many years to build a car that could beat the AC's", said Arch.  Carroll Shelby (driving under his post-Lemans winning fake name John Smith) and Roger Penske both have campaigned the ACECA's when new. Please note the "Mr. Carroll Shelby signature" on the glove box picture set below.

CSX numbered Cobra's are all over $650,000 today whilst this well-sorted ACECA example is 25% of the price of new Cobra. I  own 1958 ACECA S/N BEX654.

The AC Aceca pictured above is one the finest Aceca examples left.  It had a ground up restoration including a new Ford V8, five-speed gearbox, AC wire wheels with knock off locking hubs, white with red Connolly leather, Wilton wool carpet, Bridge of Wier cloth headliner, the best of everything. Today the few remaining AC ACECA's are owned by some of the world most prestigious collectors, including James Bond author Ian Flemming, renowned English Car Collector Jon Bradburn, BOC Secretary Mrs. Ruth Atkinson, Art Collector John Whitney Payson and Jim Feldman.
